Objectives

Educate: Jurnal Ilmu Pendidikan dan Pengajaran aims to provide an academic platform for the dissemination of scientific knowledge, research findings, theoretical perspectives, and innovative practices in education and teaching. The journal seeks to contribute to the advancement of educational theory and practice, the improvement of teaching and learning quality, and the development of innovative, inclusive, and sustainable educational systems.

The specific objectives of the journal are:

Scope

Educate: Jurnal Ilmu Pendidikan dan Pengajaran welcomes original research articles, conceptual papers, and literature reviews relevant to education and teaching. The journal covers, but is not limited to, the following areas:

Peer Review Process

Review Process Policy

Educate: Jurnal Ilmu Pendidikan dan Pengajaran applies a double-blind peer-review process to ensure the quality, originality, relevance, and academic integrity of all submitted manuscripts. The review process consists of four main stages: initial editorial screening, double-blind peer review, revision and editorial decision, and copyediting and proofreading.

First Stage: Initial Editorial Screening

Upon submission, each manuscript undergoes an initial screening by the editor, including a plagiarism check using Turnitin. Manuscripts with a similarity index exceeding 20% will be rejected before proceeding to the next stage. Manuscripts with a similarity index of 20% or below will undergo further editorial assessment.

The initial editorial assessment evaluates the manuscript's relevance to the journal's focus and scope, originality, academic contribution, research methodology, and compliance with the journal's author guidelines. The editor also checks the completeness of the manuscript and its conformity with the journal's formatting and publication requirements.

Manuscripts that meet the journal's standards will proceed to the peer-review stage, while those that do not meet the requirements may be returned to the authors for improvement or rejected by the editor.

The similarity index is used as an initial screening criterion and does not, by itself, determine whether plagiarism has occurred. The editor may examine the similarity report to assess the nature and context of the identified similarities.

Second Stage: Double-Blind Peer Review

Manuscripts that pass the initial editorial screening are assigned to qualified reviewers with relevant expertise in the subject area of the submitted manuscript. The journal applies a double-blind peer-review system, in which the identities of both authors and reviewers remain confidential throughout the review process.

Before a manuscript is sent to reviewers, the editor removes identifying information, including authors' names, email addresses, and institutional affiliations, from the manuscript to help maintain impartiality.

Reviewers evaluate manuscripts based on the following criteria:

Originality and Contribution: The originality of the manuscript and its contribution to the development of knowledge in education and teaching.
Relevance: The suitability of the manuscript to the journal's focus and scope.
Theoretical Framework: The adequacy and relevance of the theoretical foundation and scholarly references.
Research Methodology: The appropriateness, clarity, and rigor of the research design, methods, data collection, and analysis.
Results and Discussion: The clarity of the findings, the quality of the analysis, and the extent to which the discussion is supported by relevant theories and previous research.
Conclusions and Implications: The consistency of the conclusions with the research findings and the significance of the study for educational research and practice.
Academic Writing and Research Ethics: The clarity of academic presentation, appropriate citation practices, and compliance with research and publication ethics.

Reviews are conducted using the review guidelines or evaluation forms provided by the journal. Based on their assessments, reviewers submit recommendations to the editor, which may include acceptance, minor revision, major revision, or rejection. Each recommendation should be accompanied by appropriate academic justifications.

Reviewers provide expert assessments and recommendations, while the final publication decision rests with the editor.

Third Stage: Revision and Editorial Decision

The editor communicates the reviewers' comments and recommendations to the authors. When revisions are required, authors must revise their manuscripts in accordance with the reviewers' comments and submit the revised versions within the deadline specified by the editor.

Authors are also required to provide a clear, point-by-point response explaining how each reviewer comment has been addressed. If authors disagree with a particular comment or recommendation, they should provide a reasoned academic explanation.

Manuscripts requiring major revisions may be returned to the reviewers for further evaluation. Manuscripts requiring minor revisions may be assessed directly by the editor to determine whether the requested changes have been adequately addressed.

Failure to submit the required revisions and responses within the specified period, without an acceptable explanation or prior agreement with the editor, may result in the rejection of the manuscript or the discontinuation of the editorial process.

Throughout this stage, editorial decisions are based on the manuscript's academic quality, originality, relevance, methodological rigor, responsiveness to reviewers' comments, and compliance with the journal's publication standards.

The editor makes the final decision to accept or reject the manuscript. Authors will receive notification of the decision, together with reviewers' comments and constructive feedback where applicable.

Fourth Stage: Copyediting and Proofreading

Manuscripts accepted for publication proceed to the copyediting and proofreading stage. This stage aims to ensure that the manuscript meets the journal's editorial, linguistic, formatting, and publication requirements.

Copyediting may include improvements to language, grammar, clarity, consistency, references, citations, tables, figures, and other publication details without changing the substance of the authors' scholarly work without appropriate consultation.

Authors may be asked to review the edited manuscript and proofread the final version to verify the accuracy of the content, language, references, author information, affiliations, and other publication details. Authors are expected to respond to editorial queries and approve the final version within the deadline specified by the editorial team.

After the necessary corrections have been completed and the final version has been approved, the manuscript proceeds to publication in Educate: Jurnal Ilmu Pendidikan dan Pengajaran.

Confidentiality and Ethical Standards

Throughout the review and editorial process, editors and reviewers must maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and all information obtained during the review. Manuscripts must not be disclosed to unauthorized parties or used for personal or professional advantage.

Reviewers are expected to provide objective, constructive, and evidence-based assessments. Any potential conflict of interest must be disclosed to the editor, and reviewers must decline assignments if their impartiality may be compromised.

The article publication fee of IDR 300,000 is charged only if the article is accepted for publication. No fee is charged for manuscript submission.

Authorship Criteria

To maintain transparency and research integrity, Educate requires authors to disclose the use of generative AI tools when such tools have made a substantive contribution to the preparation or development of the manuscript.

An AI Use Disclosure Statement should be included in the manuscript before the references section when applicable.

The disclosure should identify:

The name of the AI tool used and its version, where available.
The purpose and extent of its use.
The sections or activities supported by the tool, where relevant.
Confirmation that the authors reviewed and verified the outputs and retain full responsibility for the manuscript.

Suggested disclosure statement:

“The authors used [name of AI tool] for [specific purpose, such as language editing, manuscript organization, or preliminary idea development]. All AI-assisted outputs were critically reviewed, verified, and revised by the authors. The authors take full responsibility for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the content of this manuscript.”

Routine spelling, grammar, and formatting checks that do not substantively contribute to the manuscript generally do not require a separate disclosure.

When AI tools form part of the research design, data collection, analysis, or methodology, their use must be described in the relevant section of the manuscript, including sufficient technical details to support transparency and reproducibility.

4. Data Governance, Privacy, and Intellectual Property

Authors must ensure that the use of AI tools does not compromise research confidentiality, participant privacy, data protection, or intellectual property rights.

Authors are responsible for:

Protecting confidential, unpublished, and sensitive research information.
Ensuring that personal data and research participant information are handled ethically and lawfully.
Reviewing the privacy policies and terms of service of AI tools before uploading research materials.
Ensuring that AI-assisted content does not infringe copyright or improperly reproduce third-party material.

Confidential manuscripts, identifiable participant information, and restricted research data must not be uploaded to AI platforms where doing so could compromise confidentiality or violate applicable requirements.

5. AI Use in Images, Figures, and Other Research Outputs

Authors must disclose the use of generative AI in producing or substantially modifying images, figures, illustrations, diagrams, or other visual materials included in a manuscript.

AI-generated or AI-modified visual materials must not be used to fabricate, falsify, or misleadingly alter research evidence, experimental results, educational observations, or other scholarly data.

Where AI is an integral part of the research methodology, such as AI-based image analysis or the development and evaluation of AI-assisted educational media, its use must be described transparently in the relevant methodological section.

Authors should provide the tool name, version, relevant parameters, and other technical information where necessary for verification and reproducibility. The editorial team may request original materials or supporting evidence when needed.

6. Authorship and Contribution Ethics

AI tools, including generative AI systems, cannot be listed as authors or co-authors of manuscripts published in Educate.

Authorship is limited to individuals who have made substantial scholarly contributions, participated in drafting or critically revising the manuscript, approved the final version, and accepted responsibility for the integrity of the work.

Authors remain responsible for identifying the contributions of all co-authors and ensuring that authorship is assigned fairly and transparently.

AI tools may be acknowledged where appropriate, but such acknowledgment does not confer authorship.

7. AI Use in the Peer Review Process

To protect confidentiality and preserve the integrity of peer review, reviewers must not upload submitted manuscripts, unpublished research findings, or confidential editorial communications to external AI tools without explicit authorization and appropriate safeguards.

Reviewers must not delegate their critical assessment of a manuscript to AI systems. Peer review reports must reflect the reviewer's independent scholarly judgment, and reviewers remain accountable for the accuracy, fairness, and confidentiality of their assessments.

Any permitted use of AI assistance must comply with the journal's instructions, confidentiality requirements, and applicable ethical standards.

8. AI Use in Editorial Decision-Making

Editors are responsible for making editorial decisions based on scholarly merit, originality, relevance, methodological quality, and compliance with publication ethics.

AI tools must not replace independent editorial judgment or be used in ways that compromise confidentiality, fairness, or accountability.

Editors must not upload confidential manuscripts or sensitive editorial correspondence to external AI systems without appropriate authorization and safeguards. Editorial decisions and decision letters remain the responsibility of the designated human editors.

9. Monitoring, Compliance, and Sanctions

Educate reserves the right to request clarification or additional information regarding the use of AI tools in submitted manuscripts.

The editorial team may conduct appropriate ethical checks and investigate concerns relating to undisclosed AI use, fabricated information, inaccurate references, manipulated research outputs, or other violations of this policy.

Depending on the nature and severity of a violation, the journal may:

Request clarification or revision of the manuscript.
Require additional disclosure or supporting documentation.
Reject a manuscript before publication.
Issue a correction or other appropriate editorial notice after publication.
Retract a published article when serious violations undermine its reliability or ethical integrity.

All actions will be taken in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies and the circumstances of the case.

Educate: Jurnal Ilmu Pendidikan dan Pengajaran requires authors to manage and present references accurately, consistently, and transparently to maintain academic integrity and support the verifiability of scholarly publications.

The journal applies the following references management policy:

1. Citation and Referencing Style

All manuscripts submitted to Educate must follow the American Psychological Association (APA) style, 7th edition (APA 7th edition), for in-text citations and reference lists, unless otherwise specified in the journal's author guidelines.

Authors must ensure that every source cited in the manuscript appears in the reference list and that every entry in the reference list is cited in the manuscript.

2. Accuracy and Verifiability of References

Authors are responsible for ensuring that all references are accurate, relevant, and verifiable. Bibliographic information, including author names, publication year, article title, journal title, volume, issue, page numbers, and DOI or URL where applicable, must be checked before submission.

Authors must not include fabricated, inaccurate, or unverifiable references.

3. Use of Reference Management Software

Authors are encouraged to use reference management software, such as Mendeley, Zotero, or EndNote, to organize references and maintain consistency in citations and bibliographic formatting.

The use of reference management software does not exempt authors from checking the accuracy and completeness of the generated citations and reference lists.

4. Quality and Relevance of Sources

Authors should prioritize credible and relevant scholarly sources, including peer-reviewed journal articles, academic books, and other authoritative publications appropriate to the subject of the manuscript.

References should be sufficiently current where relevant to the research topic. Seminal works and foundational theories may be cited when necessary.

5. DOI and Electronic Sources

Authors should provide a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) for referenced publications whenever one is available. Electronic sources must include valid and accessible URLs when appropriate.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that electronic references lead to the correct sources.

6. Ethical Citation Practices

Authors must acknowledge all ideas, statements, data, and findings derived from other sources through appropriate citations. Improper citation, plagiarism, citation manipulation, and the inclusion of irrelevant references intended solely to increase citation counts are unacceptable.

Authors must not cite sources they have not consulted or verified.

7. AI-Assisted Reference Management

Authors may use AI tools to assist with preliminary reference organization or literature discovery. However, all references suggested or generated by AI must be independently verified against the original publications or reliable bibliographic databases.

Authors must ensure the accuracy, integrity, and originality of their manuscripts and comply with the journal's author guidelines and reference style requirements.
Authors must not engage in plagiarism, inappropriate self-plagiarism, data fabrication, data falsification, duplicate publication, or other forms of academic misconduct.
All sources, quotations, paraphrased ideas, data, images, and other materials obtained from third parties must be appropriately cited and acknowledged.
All listed authors must have made meaningful scholarly contributions, approved the final version of the manuscript, and agreed to be accountable for their respective contributions.
The corresponding author is responsible for communicating with the editorial office and ensuring that all co-authors approve the submission and any substantive changes to the manuscript.

The publisher must provide appropriate administrative and technical support to maintain the journal's publication operations and preserve access to published content.

The publisher and editorial team must ensure that publication fees, editorial policies, peer-review procedures, and publication requirements are communicated transparently.
Payment of any publication fee must not guarantee acceptance or influence the outcome of peer review. For Educate: Jurnal Ilmu Pendidikan dan Pengajaran, the article submission fee is IDR 0, and the publication fee is IDR 300,000 only for articles accepted for publication.
The publisher must support appropriate corrective actions, including corrections, expressions of concern, and retractions, when required to protect the integrity of the scholarly record.

5. Plagiarism and Publication Misconduct

Educate: Jurnal Ilmu Pendidikan dan Pengajaran does not tolerate plagiarism, inappropriate reuse of previously published work, duplicate publication, data fabrication, data falsification, citation manipulation, or other forms of publication misconduct.

Submitted manuscripts may be screened using plagiarism-detection software and editorial assessment. The journal applies a maximum similarity threshold of 20%. A similarity score exceeding this threshold may result in a request for revision or rejection. Editorial decisions will consider the nature, extent, context, and attribution of the matched material rather than relying solely on the percentage score.

6. Authorship and Changes in Authorship
